Men's:
Wang Hao and Zhan Jian led the PLA team to another victory, this time 3-1 over Beijing. Wang and Zhan won their outings in singles and doubles to account for the three points.
Heilongjiang survived the Nanjing challenge, needing Xu Hui to win the 5-4 Golden Ball match over Chen Qi to snatch the victory. In this tie, Chen Qi upset Kong Linghui 3-2 in a thriller.
Luneng beat Sichuan 3-1. Wang Junji again scored the only point for Sichuan. Guangdong, with Ko Lai Chak back on its roster, gave Shanghai another 3-1 loss. Hebei, with Li Jing back from Italy, scored an upset win over Tianjin, with Li accounting for 2 of the necessary 3 points.
Shaanxi, led by Yan Sen and Liu Guoliang, won a tight one over Zhejiang who had Cheung Yuk back. Liu and Yan won their singles, and Yan overcame Jin Enhua in the Golden Ball match to score a much-needed win for Shaanxi.
Women's:
Hebei had another 3-2 win, this time over Jiangsu. Yang Ying and her partner Zhang Xiaowu scored a tough 3-2 doubles match oevr the golden pair Niu Jianjeng/ Bai Yang: the fifth game score was 26-24!
Luneng won a 3-1 tie over Beijing. Guo Yan lost her two matches in this
tie. Guangdong also won 3-1, over Tianjin. Li Nan scored the only point for
Tianjin in this tie. Liaoning demolished PLA 4-0, and Shanghai won a close
one again, this time over Sichuan. Gao Jun won her singles over Taipei player
Huang Yihua, and also the Golden Ball match over Li Xi. Henan scored a 3-2
win over winless Shanxi, and Guo Yue was the star in this tie winning her
singles and the Golden Ball match.
