Hello and thank you for clicking on the Laney College Math Club link!

The mission of the Laney College Math Club, or LCMC, is to provide a forum for members of the Laney College community to explore and discuss alternative topics in mathematics and math-based fields. Guest speakers from Laney as well as neighboring colleges and universities deliver lectures with a broad audience in mind, so that individuals with little or no mathematical background can gain a deeper appreciation for the theories and applications of mathematics. Recent topics have included the use of statistics in the courtroom, the application of geometry to navigation and global positioning, and complex numbers and their uses in special relativity. In the near future we will devote a meeting to the discussion of Godel's proof, followed by a meeting concerning the use of mathematics in quantum mechanics.

The LCMC is just under a year old, and we are open to the input of new members. If you would like to be a part of the Math Club, come to the Laney Math Lab in G201 and ask about us. Thanks for checking us out!

You can also email any questions.

Next Meeting Scheduled for Fall Semester 2003. Watch here for an announcement of time, place and topic.
