Corvair engine swap

Swapping a new power package into a former Corvair...
Obviously, it doesn't look like a Corvair. Equally obviously, it is pretty rough.
The builder did a lot of work, and it was a nifty looking machine.
(anyone know the guy who had Driveshaft Specialist in Irwindale
(on Irwindale Avenue) in late 60's/early 70's?
that's Len, and this is Len's Toy)

Here are a few shots of the donor car

before

Before- drove in, needs paint and TLC

After we got done with it-looks kind of forlorn...

And what's going into the Toy

At this point, the car is about 2 inches higher at the rear than stock factory. I want to get it close to stock height.

Side view of the car with engine package almost in place. The engine hoist is visible here. The hoist valve is old and hard to use, so we use a comealong.

The rectangular tubes were added ('way back when)to support the 327 and hold the car together.

The come-along hooks to the engine hoist, and allows us to raise and lower the car by measured amounts.

View inside car, showing ugly crossmember that supported the 327. I think it was a transmission crossmember from an early Hydramatic.

struts mounted, subframe at right height, but. about an inch too far forward! (tire touches fender)
