I have worked with children, adolescents and adults who have a wide variety of problems. I have the most experience with attention—deficit, anxiety, mood, and behavioral disorders. I have also worked extensively with children and parents who are coping with problems associated with developmental disorders. I have also obtained specialized training in neurofeedback for helping people who have problems with attention and anxiety. I earned a Ph.D. in Clinical/Community Psychology in 1992 from the University of Illinois at Urbana/Champaign. After completing a residency in the Department of Pediatrics and Human Development at Michigan State University, I worked at the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children assessing social-emotional and cognitive problems in children hospitalized for orthopedic and neurological disorders. In 1993 I was awarded a post-doctoral fellowship in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the University of Washington, working with adolescents with mood disorders and conduct problems. The next year I took a staff position at the Center on Human Development and Disabilities at the University of Washington, where I worked with families and conducted clinical research on an intervention I designed to improve the social competence of children with mild to moderate cognitive and language delays. I have presented at conferences and published articles in the areas of depression, parent-child relations, social competence, and fatherhood. I have been in private practice since 2001.
