Installing and Configuring Green Screen Savers 1.3.2a

"Jumping Frog Green Saver", "Jumping Cricket Green Saver", "Jumping Katydid Green Saver" and "Kangaroo Rat Green Saver"are Windows 9x, ME, NT, 2K, XP applications which display an animated picture (with optional sound) on your screen for a user selected period of time. The screen will then go completely blank so that Energy Star monitors can enter a power saving mode. The purpose of these Green Screen Savers is to allow the use of Energy Saving monitors installed on Windows NT (which does not support DPMS). They are also useful on Windows 9x when used with on older video controller which either do not support DPMS or do not have a Windows 9x driver. The monitor must support being configured to enter power saving mode upon sensing a blank screen. The screen savers will of course work properly with any monitor and video controller, but the monitor will only go into a power saving mode if the previous condition is met. This application is designed to work on Windows NT 3.5x, Windows NT 4.0, 2K, XP and Windows 9x, ME; it will not work properly on 16-bit Windows 3.x.

To install the Green Screen Savers, extract the files in the archive file to a floppy disk or into a temporary subdirectory (folder) of your choice. Then execute INSTALL.EXE from within that subdirectory. The installation program automatically install the Green Screen Savers into the %windir%\SYSTEM(32) directory. You may also copy the files directly into the appropriate Windows\SYSTEM(32) directory using the format shown in the following paragraphs. If you change this directory to anything other than the root Windows\SYSTEM(32) directory, the Windows control panel program will not be able to find the screen savers. (%windir% is the root Windows directory on your system)

UnInstalling Green Screen Savers

The installation program will create an uninstall icon for you unless you chose to not allow the creation of a program group. To manually remove this application from a system follow the instructions below:

Windows NT, 2K, XP: Execute the batch file GSAV-DEL.CMD with a command line option of

C:\win32app\Greensavers or "C:\Program Files\Greensavers"
(assuming that this is where you chose to install the application). After this file executes, you will need to manually remove any program groups and icons related to the application.

Windows 9x: Execute the batch file GSAV-DEL.BAT with a command line option of

"C:\Program Files\Greensavers"
(assuming that this is where you chose to install the application). After this file executes, you will need to manually remove any program groups and icons related to the application.

This application is a copyrighted commercial product which is distributed as shareware. This means that you may use the program for a reasonable length of time to insure that it meets your requirements.

You may pass this (unregistered) program along to your friends and associates who have power saving monitors (or who like crickets or frogs). Please distribute the original archive file rather than the individual files contained therein. (The archive file is located in the REDIST subdirectory if you are installing from the floppy disk version).You may also post it to any BBS or on-line service. We only ask that if you continue to use this program on a regular, basis that you register it.

When the setup option is selected from control panel for these screen savers, one of the options is to register the program. Once the program has been registered, this selection will still appear, but will now display the registered user information. The registration dialog will request a Product ID which may be obtained by following the instructions in this document. This program does not contain a "time bomb" to limit its unregistered usage, but you will have to register the program to remove the reminder to register which is displayed when the screen saver runs.

Setup options:

The default values for the other setup options will probably work for most users, but several parameters are configurable by the user.

Jump Speed:	(default = 25) [ 1 = fast , 100 = slow motion ] any integer value may be entered, but values between 1 and 100 will probably work for most systems.
Jump Length	(default = 5) [ 1 = short, 10 = long ] any integer value may be entered, but values between 1 and 10 will probably work for most systems.
Initial X position	(default = 0) The initial X-axis screen coordinate of the jumping critter.
Initial Y position	(default = 0) The initial Y-axis screen coordinate of the jumping critter.
Delay until black	(default = 200) The number of time the critter will jump before the screen goes black. (Set to 0 to disable this feature).
No Jump Sound	(default) No Sound when critter jumps.
Whoosh Sound	Whoooosh! sound when critter jumps.
Boo-iing Sound	Booo-iiing! sound when critter jumps.
Chirp Sound (or Thump or Squeek )	(default = on) Sound made when critter is at bottom of screen.
Pause at Bottom	(default = on) 2 second pause betweeen jumps (this option does not work unless the program has been registered).
